AA Thought for the Day
May 13, 2009
Seeking a Higher Power
Do not let any prejudice you may have against spiritual terms deter you from honestly asking yourself what they mean to you. At the start, this was all we needed to commence spiritual growth. - Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 47
Thought to Ponder . . .
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't, and die to find out there is.

Discovery
AA has accomplished so many things in my life today. It has given me my sanity and an all-around sense of balance. I have found that the process of discovering who I really am begins with knowing who I really don't want to be. - Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 456-7
Thought to Ponder . . .
Recovery is discovery.

AA Thought for the Day
May 15, 2009
Face-To-Face
We came together because we were in trouble. We leave our references and credentials at the door. We learn that we can recover from this trouble through the most powerful remedy in the world for sick souls -- the face-to-face relation, respect for one another as human beings, and the right to live well as complete persons. We come together in the downright simple faith that every human being has a right to health in body, mind, and soul. - Thank You For Sharing, p. 58
Thought to Ponder . . .
Together we can do what we could never do alone.

Anonymity
The entire future of our fellowship hangs upon this vital principle. If we continue to be filled with the spirit and practice of anonymity, no shoal or reef can wreck us. If we forget this principle, the lid to Pandora's box will be off and the spirits of Money, Power, and Prestige will be loosed among us. - Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age, p. 131

Sponsorship
My sponsor was a living damper on my intolerance. But even more, he told me that it would be all right for me to doubt God, that AA was not a religious program and, to belong, I did not have to adhere to any set of beliefs. - Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 366
Thought to Ponder . . .

"In recovery there are no losers, just slow winners." I remember being in early recovery and feeling so bad that I just knew it wasn't working. I'd tell my sponsor about it, and I can still hear him saying, "Michael, you're exactly where you should be, and that's exactly what you should be feeling right now." At first I thought he was just handing me a line, but after a while I believed him and learned to trust in the slow progress I was making in recovery. Years later I'd hear other newcomers complain about how bad they felt and about how terrible of a day they were having. I can still hear the old timers ask them if they had a drink that day. "No," they'd respond. "Then no matter bad you think you're doing, when you lay your head on your pillow tonight you're a winner." It was comforting to hear that back then, and it still is today. Now that I've been in recovery a while I understand the wisdom in this week's quote. It doesn't matter what you're going through in recovery or how you feel, the fact that you are in recovery, that you have a program, and that you're developing or improving your conscious contact with a power greater than yourself means that you've already won. You may feel like a loser temporarily, but most of the time and in the long run you'll live a life filled with the joys and miracles of recovery. Over time you, too, will come to see that in recovery there are no losers, just slow winners.

AA Thought for the Day

A Joyful Way of Life
One beautiful man -- without funds or financial aid, without benefit of publicity and great advertising campaigns -- quietly, anonymously spread a message from one man in one room in one city to reach millions of persons in thousands of rooms clear around the world. Today, more than a million of us who suffer from the disease of alcoholism have found not just the ability to live with or survive this insidious disease, but a joyful way of life as new as this morning and as old as mankind. - The Best of the Grapevine [Vol. 2], p. 255

“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance – that principle is contempt prior to investigation.”

AA Thought for the Day

Prayer
Prayer is not trying to get God to change His will. It is trying to find out what His will is, to align ourselves or realign ourselves with His purpose for the world and for us. That's why it is so important for us to listen as well as talk when we pray. - Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age, p. 265
Thought to Ponder . . .
